The Tour de France is in full swing. Tomorrow, July 17, 2011 the 15th stage will start in Limoux, the small and very old town in the center of the Haute Vallee of the Aude.
Limoux is one of our destinations (click to get to the website) in our tour which we really love to share with you. This original French small town breathes history, closeness, community, care and interest for one another. It is intimate, but has all the amenities one needs.
Limoux has a couple of famous churches, museums and gardens but is mostly known for it’s sparkling wine: the Blanquette de Limoux: mother of the Champagne…..
Already in Roman times Limoux was a city center, where the pratricians had their summer residences on the 7 hills spread along the river Aude just like Rome which is also built on 7 hills along the Tiber.
One way or another Limoux escaped most of the times the historical aggression of battling armies and has been able to maintain a peaceful environment in the Aude area.
For all the right reasons, this city is worth a visit, in the frame of the Tour de France or just because of it’s enticing atmosphere.
Let’s share a glass of Cremante at the Place de la Republique….. to your health!
